Israel has clarified that Lebanon will not be included in the proposed two-week ceasefire agreement with Iran, signalling that tensions could persist on multiple fronts in the region.

According to a statement issued by the office of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Israel has agreed in principle to suspend its attacks against Iran for two weeks, subject to specific conditions. These include the immediate reopening of the Strait of Hormuz and a halt to attacks against the United States, Israel, and other regional allies.

Israeli officials emphasised that the proposed ceasefire applies strictly to Iran and does not extend to Lebanon, indicating that hostilities linked to that front may continue. Analysts warn that excluding Lebanon from the agreement could complicate broader de-escalation efforts and prolong instability in the region.

The statement further reiterated Israel’s support for US-led efforts to counter what it described as threats posed by Iran, including concerns over nuclear development, missile capabilities, and alleged support for militant groups. Israeli authorities continue to view Iran as a major security challenge in the Middle East.

So far, no official response has been issued by Iran regarding Israel’s latest position. However, experts suggest that leaving Lebanon out of the ceasefire framework may increase the risk of continued conflict and undermine efforts to achieve a comprehensive regional truce.

The development comes amid ongoing diplomatic initiatives aimed at reducing tensions, including mediation efforts involving Pakistan and other international actors.

Observers say the situation remains fluid, with the success of the ceasefire likely to depend on whether all parties can agree on broader terms that address multiple conflict zones simultaneously.
